ISO 45001

Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems (ISO 45001)

The ISO 45001:2018 standard replaces the previous BS OHSAS 18001 standard, which is no longer valid as of March 12, 2021.

Health and Safety Advice and Assistance

Replacing the previous standard, ISO 45001:2018 aims to provide international regulatory recognition (ISO) and facilitate integration with other ISO management system standards.

It is based on the Annex SL structure, which defines the common framework that all ISO standards must follow.

Organizational Responsibility

The ISO 45001 standard requires organizations implementing an Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS) to look beyond short-term issues and consider broader societal expectations in terms of responsibility.

Organizations must also take into account:

  • Contractors and suppliers
  • The impact of their activities on stakeholders

As globalization and international trade continue to grow, there is an increasing expectation that organizations behave ethically in all aspects of their business, particularly with regard to employee health and safety.

Key Benefits

ISO 45001 provides organizations with:

  • An internationally recognized standard
  • A structured approach to risk management
  • Effective management of legislative compliance
  • Promotion of safer working practices
  • Evaluation and improvement of health and safety performance

The systemic approach facilitates a reduction in workplace accidents and supports business continuity.
